Snakes in Maine
Maine state is located in the northeastern region of the United States, bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, New Hampshire and the Canadian provinces of Quebec and New Brunswick.
Maine, which for thousands of years was inhabited only by indigenous people, is well known for its rocky coastline, beautiful waterways and heavily forested landscapes. Approximately 83% of Maine’s land is forested. That is the reason why it is called the Pine Tree State. Among the state’s unique geographical features you can also find the Old Sow, known as the largest tidal whirlpool in the Western Hemisphere. All these elements and more bring about an abundance of wildlife in the state of Maine. However, the northeastern state has a humid continental climate, with warm (not hot) humid summers, and very cold and snowy winters throughout the state. This definitely does not make it an ideal habitat for many sorts of reptiles. No doubt about it. Being cold-blooded, reptiles need to absorb heat from their surrounding environment in order to regulate their body temperature.
Taking the climate conditions into account, it is understandable that there are only 10 different species of Snakes in Maine. Only one of them, the Timber Rattlesnake, is venomous. Here’s the complete list…

Snakes in Maryland
Maryland state is located in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States, bordering Pennsylvania to its north, Delaware to its east, and Virginia, West Virginia, and Washington, D.C. to its south and west.
Despite being one of the smallest states in the country, Maryland is blessed with a large variety of landscapes, ranging from beautiful low marshlands with a wide range of wildlife, sandy dunes with seagrass, up to breath-taking hills of oak forests and pine groves in the mountains. The huge Wye Oak, which can grow to inspiring heights of more than 21m (70 feet), can be found in Maryland. This green state has a bountiful and healthy plant life, which in turn provides a great habitat for animals of all sorts. The eastern part of Maryland lies on the Atlantic Coastal Plain, and has a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and short mild to cool winters. This makes it a convenient habitat for many sorts of reptiles.
There are 27 different species of Snakes in Maryland, and only two of them (7.4%) are venomous. Here’s the complete list…
